Iknow-UK – UK citizens opting for short break bookings during 2009
The UK travel industry has tracked a record growth of short break bookings during 2009. UK airline bmibaby have reported that bookings for breaks of less than four days are up by more than 20 per cent year on year, between January to April 2009, in comparison to the same period in 2008.
The most popular destinations for short breaks between January to April 2009 are Edinburgh from East Midlands and Cardiff Airport, Amsterdam from Birmingham International Airport and Belfast from Manchester Airport.
Julian Carr, commercial director, bmibaby, said,
“We have seen a sharp increase in bookings for trips of less than four days this year. Fifty three per cent of our bookings between January and April 2009 are from people taking short trips, compared to just thirty one per cent in the same period in 2008.
“More passengers are booking shorter breaks, for business or leisure purposes. People are not prepared to give up the all important weekend break, and business travelers are migrating towards the low cost travel option.”
With so many people looking to take a short break within the UK this year, the low cost airline is encouraging travelers to book their accommodation early to avoid disappointment during peak traveling times. With so many landlords increasing the rate per night and competition rife over the summer months, travelers don’t know where to start when planning a short break away this summer.
However help is at hand with Iknow-uk an online marketing consultancy who have thousands of different types of accommodation featured on their website. The website is split according to each area across the UK, with each site focusing on just one part of the UK to ensure that maximum coverage is achieved.

Finca Cortesin: New realms of Andalucian luxury
Finca Cortesin Hotel, Golf & Spa opened in October 2008. Set in the unspoilt Andalucian hinterland near Sotogrande and Marbella, this new 67-suite property offers an elegant holiday experience for the sophisticated traveler. The hotel, golf course and spa aim to set a new benchmark for luxury both on the Costa del Sol and in Spain as a whole.
The most significant resort development in the area in recent years, the Finca Cortesin required an investment of more than 700 million Euros. The resort covers an area of 300,000 square meters and more than 530 acres of land including a signature 18 hole golf course, spacious green areas and terraces as well as two outdoor and one indoor pool.
“Our goal was to create a luxurious resort that would outshine every conventional five-star resort here in Andalusia in terms of magnitude, premium service, classy design and grandeur. Finca Cortesin even exceeds our ambitions”, says Javier Reviriego, General Manager of Finca Cortesin Hotel, Golf & Spa.
Designed by the renowned architects Roger Torras and Ignacio Sierra, the hotel is inspired and influenced by the architecture of traditional Spanish fincas, giving the impression that it was built more than 100 years ago. With its red clay tiles and whitewashed walls it perfectly blends into the Mediterranean landscape of Andalusia. The interior of the hotel features a Moorish inspired cloister with hand-carved ceilings and floors that includes a unique traditional flowing fountain. The space has been fine-tuned by specialists from the Alhambra, the famous Moorish palace and UNESCO World heritage site in Granada. The spacious rooms, hallways and public areas are nobly furnished with marble, antiques, goblins and decorations originating from Spanish, Portuguese, French and Belgian monarchial castles, monasteries and stately homes. Interior designers Duarte Pinto Coelho and Ana and Cristina Calderon ensure the property exudes flair and individual style.
The hotel offers 67 spacious suits. Each suite is a minimum of 95 square metres whilst the all-marble bathrooms are upward of 27 square metres. A number of the suites have their own private pool and terrace with clear views of the Mediterranean, the golf course or the property’s extensive gardens. The resort also features a 2,200 square metre Zen-inspired spa with numerous treatment rooms, a 25 metre heated indoor pool, thermal suites, saunas steam baths and the only snow cabin in Spain.
The signature 18-hole golf course has been developed by Cabell Robinson and is home to the Volvo World Match Play Championships, which is being hosted at Finca Cortesin from 2009 onwards. With a length of 6,804 meters and the highest maintenance standards possible, the championship golf course is considered one of the most challenging in Europe. The golf course opened in October 2006 but has quickly become a rising star and is already considered a ‘classic Spanish course’ by golfers around the world.
Guests and gourmets can indulge in any of the three restaurants. Renowned Dutch chef Schilo Can Coevorden masterminds inventive dishes and draws on his experience at numerous Michelin-starred restaurants around the world including The College Hotel in Amsterdam. The signature ‘Schilo’ restaurant serves an unusual fusion of Moorish and Asian cuisine drawing heavily on local produce. ‘El Jardin’ offers a taste of Spain whilst the pool bar serves light Andalucian dishes and tapas.
Finca Cortesin is located 1,5 kilometers from the beach near the little town of Casares, one of the most picturesque and authentic villages in Andalusia, 40 minutes west of Malaga and only 20 minutes from Gibraltar Airport.
Room rates start at around 325 Euros per night at double occupancy.

New Website to Increase Tourism in Sussex
New Website to Increase Tourism in Sussex
The UK’s fastest-growing accommodation listing website launches in Sussex this month.
Regional tourism managers are this week being invited to join a new tourism product which will increase bookings for hoteliers and the hospitality industry across Sussex. Information regarding iknow-Sussex has been sent to accommodation providers across the county, offering them the opportunity to take advantage of 6 months FREE on the UK’s fastest growing accommodation website.
www.iknow- Sussex.co.uk will be officially launched this month (December), in preparation for the post-Christmas booking season – the most popular time for people in the UK to book holidays. Anyone owning a guest house, hotel, self-catering property or holiday park, can list their property on the website for six months free of charge, providing they register their interest before the end of December 2008.
iknow-Sussex is a creation of the award-winning iknow-uk ltd. They have successfully released sites in Yorkshire, the Lake District, Devon, Wales, Cornwall, Scotland, Somerset, Dorset, Kent and the Northwest over the past five years. Sussex is the third of four sites to be launched this year to complete the coverage of the South Coast. The sites receive over 150,000 visitors every week; generating over £400 million in booking enquiries for members so far this year.
Their growing reputation attracted Park Holidays to become the first customer on their Sussex site. Boasting five stunning coastal locations in the county, including the brand new ‘Coghurst Hall’, Park Holidays offer caravan holiday home stays from as little as £69 for the whole family.
"As one of the UK's largest holiday park groups, we monitor very carefully the needs of our customers and do everything possible to exceed their expectations," says Geoff Barnes, marketing director of Park Holidays UK.
"Our experience with iknow-uk convinces me that they are equally skilled at getting it right for their clients and delivering on their business promises" adds Geoff. “iknow-sussex attracts people wanting to make an informed choice based on the type of benefits we offer. Just as importantly, they are people who are not just window-shopping, but expecting to make purchasing decisions once they feel they have the right product," he said.
“Through www.iknow-sussex.co.uk, the parks group is also able to reassure customers about other aspects of their stay, such as the fact that pets are made welcome, and that free wi-fi is available.”
Where iknow-uk differs from most accommodation sites is that it actually works – their sites generated over £440 million in booking enquiries for their customers in 2007 alone. In addition, property owners can change the adverts themselves, as often as they like. The sites are very simple to use and are well ranked in the most popular search engines.

15,000 People a Week Plan Visits to Cumbria
15,000 People a Week Plan Visits to Cumbria
Leading accommodation listings website, iknow-uk says booking enquiries for the Lakes have doubled in the past few months, despite the economic climate.
www.iknow-lakedistrict.co.uk was launched four years ago. Since then, it’s been busy generating millions of pounds worth of booking enquiries for its members. And this year, things are looking even better.
Visitor numbers to the site were up from 40,000 in October 2007 to 49,000 in October 2008. In November, iknow saw an increase of almost 10,000 booking enquiries and December was double that of 2007 after just two weeks. The iknow-lakedistrict site has already received 15,000 visitors in the first week of January.
It seems the strong Euro is having an impact on British bookings and this theme looks set to continue through the main booking period of January and February. And it could provide Lake District hoteliers with a phenomenal opportunity this New Year.
Managing Director of iknow-uk, Marcus Simmons, comments “We put the increase down to a combination of two things; more people choosing to holiday in the UK and the increasing prominence of the iknow sites. This combination led to an unbelievable number of enquiries at the beginning of 2008 and this trend continued throughout the year.”
“We heard from a local MP recently that some of his hotel-owning constituents had seen a fall of 40% in their bookings in the final quarter of 2008. Our members have seen an increase of 50% on last year’s enquiries – so we must be doing something right. We’ve even had 168 booking enquiries for visits to the Lakes in December 2009!”
Since their launch in 2003, iknow-uk has been awarded Start Up Business of the Year and Best Commercial Website awards. They have also been presented with two Big Chip Awards; voted Best of Lancashire amongst their peers and were North West finalists in the National Business Awards 2008 for ‘The Orange Best Use of Technology Award’.
