STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD

The Mylar Mirror is the innovative new material that is creating new possibilities for the future of exhibition stands. With companies constantly looking to stand out from the crowd at trade show events, the quest for unique and attractive displays is the main creative challenge. Thanks to some exciting new CGI concept designs, the  manufacturers of the new Mylar mirror, Glass Installations Ltd., are now on the lookout for innovative exhibition stand designers to put the ‘mirror stand’ concept into practice.

CGI Mirror Exhibition Stand

Mylar Mirrors, which are made of metallic backed polyester wrapped around an aluminium frame, have the advantage of being extremely lightweight, making them easy and quick to install. The mirrors can be constructed in sizes not possible with glass and the flatness of the foil makes for an almost perfect quality reflection.

Using a computer generated model, designers at the marketing agency Creativsauce Ltd have developed an exciting concept of how the state-of-the art mirror material can add a new dimension to exhibition stands. Glass installations approached the design team to take an existing computer generated image of an exhibition stand design, and with some computer trickery, show how the mirrors can add a new dimension to an otherwise plain stand.

The model shows how a car stand for an Austin Martin DB9 has been enhanced with two huge Mylar mirrors harnessed above the car, allowing observers to see the car from an exciting, new angle and give the stand a unique and contemporary look. With the lightness of the new mirror material, exciting new possibilities like this are now achievable.

Managing director of Glass Installations, Bob Quarmby, explained, “Our new mirror produces an incredibly sharp and clear reflection.”

“This CGI image demonstrates that as well as their functional use, mirrors give the effect of adding space and can open up a small display area.”

The company have previously manufactured and supplied huge Mylar mirrors to high end fashion retail store ‘Joseph’ in London with stunning results and are now looking at exciting new applications of the mirror, one of which being exhibition stands. Foil mirrors have previously been used in displays by Sony at the IFA electronics show in 2008 to create an amazing endless exhibition space.

Set up in 1996 by Bob Quarmby, Glass Installations Ltd. began specialising in high impact mirrors to be used in the Leisure industry. In 2007 the company relocated to a larger site in Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire to begin production of a new Mylar Lightweight Mirror. This new product, made out of a state-of-the art glassless foil, has the advantage of being lightweight and has the capability to be produced in huge sizes.

Interior Lighting

Getting the lighting in any room right can be a nightmare. Knowing what mood to go for in each room and creating the right ambiance is something most homeowners get wrong. Dimmer switches and Dimmer touch lamps are the best way to bring a varied lighting structure in to your new or existing home. With a dimmer switch or touch lamp the lighting can be adjusted and 'dimmed'. This helps to set different moods for different rooms and also still have fully functional bright lighting when you need it. A touch lamp can be used as a statement, everything in your home says a little about you so your house is a reflection of your personality. You should take this into consideration when shopping for a touch lamp too.

As well as providing flexible lighting and ambiance, dimmer switches and touch lamps can help to save you money. If you dim your household lighting by a pretty un-noicable 10 percent then you ill be using 10 percent less electricity. Therefore by moving over to dimmers and touch lamps you can cut down electricity and feel more green inside! The other main beenfit is durability, as you use less electricity the bulbs and lamps tend to last a lot longer than regular ones do. So wether you're looking for a new stylish centre piece or just want to cut down household bills buy a touch lamp today.

Estate Millwork’s wood shutters stay green in hard times

Pittsburgh, Pa ( PRFriend ) May 25, 2009  – Despite troubled economic conditions, homeowners are opening their wood shutters to welcome in the fresh spring air.

Estate Millwork, a shutter factory just outside of Pittsburgh, insists on an eco-conscious shutter-building workshop to save energy during the economic meltdown.

All of Estate Millwork’s exterior shutters are made from genuine hardwoods that come exclusively from timber suppliers who insist on renewable forestry.

Because Estate Millwork mills all of the wood in-house to order, the company keeps waste and costs in check -- while keeping options for custom shutters wide open.

Estate Millwork’s master craftsmen have experience in creating detailed replications of unique window shutters from a wide span of historical periods. Estate Millwork’s website also hosts a tool that allows users to design custom shutters . This interactive shutter design tool provides customers with pricing estimates for made-to-order wood shutters at the click of a mouse. This design tool suits the company's green ethos perfectly - it reduces guesswork and paper waste.

For Estate Millwork, going green is the only way to provide homeowners with quality exterior shutters.

In a downturn, as many homeowners watch the values of their mortgages plummet, exterior shutters can be a sound and green home-improvement investment. But inventive ways of saving money existed long before this century.

Early American pioneers prepared their log cabin homes for hard times by sealing the cracks between timbers with mud and battening their windows with wooden shutters. Their wisdom helped them preserve precious heating fuels in the winter -- and that wisdom is just as applicable today.

Estate Millwork’s craftsmen use time-honored, labor-intensive techniques to shape hand-selected, top-grade wood into custom shutters. The result is high-quality exterior shutters with no gaps or cracks to allow summer's heat or winter's blustery cold into the home.

During the Great Depression, many people might have thrown their worthless stock certificates out of their gilded window shutters -- but today's homeowners are much less cavalier about their energy bills. Made-to-order exterior shutters guarantee homeowners a wide selection of custom, precision-crafted energy control devices.

On a nice, spring day, homeowners can open their wood shutters to let cool bursts of fresh air enter their homes. If it's raining, exterior shutters with adjustable louvers allow homeowners to leave their windows open while still enjoying a refreshing breeze.

On a sunny July afternoon, panel shutters can keep the outside glare at bay, ensuring a cool, relaxing indoors. Even in winter, a few pairs of precision-fitted exterior shutters provide energy savings by keeping hot air in and cold air out.

Homeowners are not the only ones keeping a watchful eye on the environment in these troubled times. At Estate Millwork’s corporate headquarters, located near one of the greenest cities in the country -- Pittsburgh, Pa. -- company principal Jim Jackson says workers will expand efforts to create window shutters in an environmentally friendly fashion.

The plant has been able to cut significant costs through recycling initiatives and energy conservation, and serves as a model for other businesses in this recession.

Estate Millwork designs and sells custom wood shutters , custom doors, and cabinetry at estatemillwork.com.

Massive Mirrored Wall Reflects a Unique Interior Space

Mirror manufacturer Glass Installations have completed their biggest and most challenging project to date by manufacturing two huge mirrors covering the entire back wall of luxury fashion label ‘Joseph’s’ flagship London store.

Completed in March of this year, the innovative new store design by Design Research Studio Ltd, founded by internationally renowned designer Tom Dixon, coincided with the re-launch of the Joseph label’s brand. The 4 metre x 8 metre ‘wall of mirrors’ aim to give an illusion of doubling the space of the Mayfair store’s new sharp, industrial theme.

Stoke-on-Trent based Glass Installations used their latest lightweight foil mirrors for the project, which are made of aluminium coated foil wrapped around an aluminium frame. The product was selected due to its almost perfect clarity and the ability to be produced in large sizes up to and beyond 8 metres in length. The Joseph store mirrors represent the largest mirrors the company has produced to date.

Lead Senior Designer for the store refitting, Helene Andersen at Design Research Studio, had the task of creating the new store layout, and explained “Joseph wanted the store to reflect their new ‘rock and roll’ identity.” The final design went for a rough, minimalistic aesthetic, using sharp, industrial colours with a spacious layout. The mirrored wall idea was conceived to enhance the illusion of space in the store.

The designers required a solution for the mirrored wall idea which could be easily installed in as few panels as possible, while producing a perfect reflection. Helene and her team discovered the lightweight foil mirror, produced by Glass Installations and contacted managing director Bob Quarmby to discuss the project. They decided on two 2x8 metre mirrors, stacked horizontally, one on top of the other.

Installed in time for the store launch party, the mirrors have become a big hit with customers. Store manager Jenny Mace remarked, “We all absolutely love the mirror, it gives customers quite a surprise when they realise it’s a mirror!” The mirrors have achieved the goal of creating an innovative retail space, as well as a unique talking point.

Set up in 1996 by Bob Quarmby, Glass Installations Ltd. began specialising in high impact mirrors to be used in the Leisure industry. The company’s latest product, glassless foil mirrors, have been supplied to dance studios and used in film set designs, including an upcoming movie starring Nicole Kidman, to be released later this year.

Blow away the blow out baby budget and visit Bedebyes

A recent study has revealed that British parents fork out a whopping £27,500 on their child before they are even three- with most of the money spent within the first year of the child being born. Before their first birthday, £18,000 is spent on the precious youngsters, proving that babies are costing more than ever before.

The survey, titled ‘The Baby Budget 2009’ looked at a variation of spending costs, including, baby and maternity wear, toys and entertainment, childcare, furniture and food. Launched by Gurgle.com, over 3,000 mothers and mothers-to-be took part in the survey, to discover that most of the money is spent before the child is even born.

The survey revealed that parents spend, on average, £4,000 on products for their new born, including £91.45 on clothes, and £71.79 on toys before they have even met their child. Most of the money is spent on decorating the home with a nursery for the child to sleep and play in. Around £3,383 is spent on decorating and furnishing the nursery, and a further £605 on prams, buggies and car seats.

Set in the unspoilt Andalucian hinterland near Sotogrande and Marbella, this new 67-suite property offers an elegant holiday experience for the sophisticated traveler. The hotel, golf course and spa aim to set a new benchmark for luxury both on the Costa del Sol and in Spain as a whole.

The most significant resort development in the area in recent years, the Finca Cortesin required an investment of more than 700 million Euros. The resort covers an area of 300,000 square meters and more than 530 acres of land including a signature 18 hole golf course, spacious green areas and terraces as well as two outdoor and one indoor pool.

“Our goal was to create a luxurious resort that would outshine every conventional five-star resort here in Andalusia in terms of magnitude, premium service, classy design and grandeur. Finca Cortesin even exceeds our ambitions”, says Javier Reviriego, General Manager of Finca Cortesin Hotel, Golf & Spa.

Designed by the renowned architects Roger Torras and Ignacio Sierra, the hotel is inspired and influenced by the architecture of traditional Spanish fincas, giving the impression that it was built more than 100 years ago. With its red clay tiles and whitewashed walls it perfectly blends into the Mediterranean landscape of Andalusia. The interior of the hotel features a Moorish inspired cloister with hand-carved ceilings and floors that includes a unique traditional flowing fountain. The space has been fine-tuned by specialists from the Alhambra, the famous Moorish palace and UNESCO World heritage site in Granada. The spacious rooms, hallways and public areas are nobly furnished with marble, antiques, goblins and decorations originating from Spanish, Portuguese, French and Belgian monarchial castles, monasteries and stately homes. Interior designers Duarte Pinto Coelho and Ana and Cristina Calderon ensure the property exudes flair and individual style.
The hotel offers 67 spacious suits. Each suite is a minimum of 95 square metres whilst the all-marble bathrooms are upward of 27 square metres. A number of the suites have their own private pool and terrace with clear views of the Mediterranean, the golf course or the property’s extensive gardens. The resort also features a 2,200 square metre Zen-inspired spa with numerous treatment rooms, a 25 metre heated indoor pool, thermal suites, saunas steam baths and the only snow cabin in Spain.

The signature 18-hole golf course has been developed by Cabell Robinson and is home to the Volvo World Match Play Championships, which is being hosted at Finca Cortesin from 2009 onwards. With a length of 6,804 meters and the highest maintenance standards possible, the championship golf course is considered one of the most challenging in Europe. The golf course opened in October 2006 but has quickly become a rising star and is already considered a ‘classic Spanish course’ by golfers around the world.

Guests and gourmets can indulge in any of the three restaurants. Renowned Dutch chef Schilo Can Coevorden masterminds inventive dishes and draws on his experience at numerous Michelin-starred restaurants around the world including The College Hotel in Amsterdam. The signature ‘Schilo’ restaurant serves an unusual fusion of Moorish and Asian cuisine drawing heavily on local produce. ‘El Jardin’ offers a taste of Spain whilst the pool bar serves light Andalucian dishes and tapas.

Blendworth expands with the launch of its contemporary Wallpaper and Fabric Collections

Blendworth expands with the launch of its contemporary Wallpaper and Fabric Collections

Under the influence of new Head Designer, Steve Dobinson, Blendworth is delighted to announce the introduction of a stunning new range of ‘must-have’ wallpaper designs, entitled ‘Paper Trail’. To complement these modern designs and its rapidly expanding portfolio of fabric collections, Blendworth is also launching the elegant and romantic Charleston and the dramatic yet chic, Mayfair range all of which offer creative and unique finishing touches.

With the innovative use of metallic and iridescent inks, ‘Paper Trail’ is a modern wallpaper collection across five dramatic designs. Lexington Paper and Bayswater Paper have been created to work in harmony with the Mayfair fabric collection whilst Linden Paper and Radcliffe Paper have been designed with the Charleston fabrics in mind. Starburst Paper is a soft geometric pattern which can be used along side the new fabrics or as a modern wall covering in its own right.

‘Mayfair’ is a collection of sophisticated prints and weaves with a distinctive mix of pattern and contemporary use of colour, inspired by the glamour and finesse of a boutique hotel. The key design feature to this range has been created through the innovative use of foil accents which can be seen running through the metallic vine pattern on the Lexington design, off-set by a graphic shadow effect. In keeping with the luxurious theme, Metropole and Tribeca use a clever Ombre weave effect to produce an eye-catching ripple of colour in both a fashionable ‘Ogee’ motif and soft stripe, whilst Delano offers a printed barcode stripe. Bayswater is a bold floral print combined with a whimsical foliage silhouette which sits comfortably within the collection along with Astoria, a truly decadent silk and Soho, a texturised semi plain fabric offering a real retro feel.

Inspired by the charming historic town in America, the ‘Charleston’ collection conjures up feelings of picturesque coastal gardens and elegant colonial homes. This is illustrated perfectly with the gentle meandering Wisteria and Passion Flower trail used in Veranda and the soft quill style feathers featured in Seabrook. The woven, Promenade design offers a crisp satin ribbon stripe whilst Edisto is a soft check with a relaxed comforting feel. Another design in the collection is Radcliffe, a faded damask subtly highlighted using flecks of metallic, printed on a rustic cotton/linen mix cloth. Linden uses a similar effect to highlight the leaves on this printed vine design. To complete the range is a distressed medallion weave known as Beach House, which works together with Bayview, a heavy duty plain, both ideal for upholstery.

Also available is an elegant dual-purpose plain fabric, ‘Palmetto’, with a subtle ‘polished’ finish to give a contemporary edge. Palmetto is a versatile linen/viscose fabric suitable for drapes and upholstery, achieving 30,000 Martindale. It is available in thirty colours ranging from classic Parchment and Claret to modern Fennel and Mocha.
