Save Money – Save Lives – Lancashire Partnership For Road Safety
Road safety charity, Chorley Advanced Motorists is offering a huge discount off their advanced driving course known as 'Skill for Life' and will stage a promotional event for young drivers in Lancashire. 'Alive To Drive' will take place in the Tesco car park, Chorley from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th of June and anybody that signs up for a combined course of advanced motoring and skid control will have £99 waived from the cost with help from a National Lottery Awards for All Grant.
At the ‘Alive to Drive’ event, young drivers will be shown the consequences of mistakes often made due to a lack of experience. There will be a mobile fire station which visitors can explore and the National Car Control Centre (NCCC) is providing a specially adapted vehicle used to train drivers in how to bring a car back under control if it goes into a skid. Educational literature will be available and Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety’s award winning film, Missing Matthew, will be played on a large screen – the true story of a Lancashire youngster who lost his life whilst racing his friend showing the devastating impact his death has had on his family and friends.
Simon Kirkman, chairman of Chorley Advanced Motorists said: "We are offering £99 off our 'Skill for Life' advanced driving course taken in 10 weekly sessions followed by a Skid Control session. Together these courses will develop the ability of young drivers giving them skills to judge situations much better and learn how to handle their car all for a bargain price of only £139. If the driver is over 21, further savings could be made with Adelaide Insurance Services Ltd who aim to beat any quote for an IAM members.”
Linda Sanderson, Communications Manager for Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety said: “260 young drivers in Lancashire are killed or seriously injured each year, mostly through inexperience and inappropriate speed. 17 to 24 year olds are responsible for a third of all fatal and serious crashes and two thirds of all speed related deaths on roads in Britain. However those drivers who go on to take an advanced driving course are 70%* less likely to be involved in a road crash. We are urging all young drivers in Lancashire to grab this opportunity while it is on offer!”
Also supporting the day is 21 year old Matthew Cowburn who has lost two of his best friends in road crashes. Matt has done the 'Skill for Life' advanced driving course and says: "It's an opportunity to prepare yourself and get an armoury of ideas on how to be a better driver and I don’t mean becoming a ‘boring biddy’ going slow everywhere! Whilst doing the course I kept thinking 'actually, that makes sense', I can honestly say that no matter how good a driver you think you are, you're not.”
For the chance to get a £99 discount on the combined course, participants must have a full driving licence and visit the promotional stand at Tesco in Chorley from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 June between 8.30am and 8.30pm and 10.00am and 4.00pm on Sunday.
